Brazil is the world's fifth-largest country in terms of land mass and population, and its over 200.4 million inhabitants are heavily concentrated along the Atlantic coast. The country covers nearly half of South America and is the continent's largest nation. The total area of the country is about 8,500,000 km2, and borders every nation in the continent except Chile and Ecuador. It is also the only Portuguese speaking country in the continent.

Brazil's nominal GDP is currently around US$ 2,463 trillion with an income of approximately US$12,000 per annum per person., Brazil has the largest domestic market in Latin America and is the eighth largest consumer market amongst nations.

Although income remains low when compared to developed countries, in almost 20 years more than 29 million Brazilians have crossed the poverty line.

In 2013 foreign direct investment in Brazil reached US$ 69.1 billion, or 2.78% of GDP.

The volume of foreign investment will remain strong as the Olympic games near (2016) and as long as there is a strong focus on developing Brazil’s infrastructure.
